Renault Duster Repair Oil Pan Leak in Dubai

When it comes to keeping your vehicle running smoothly, addressing oil leaks promptly is crucial. Recently, we had a Renault Duster in for an oil pan leak repair here in Dubai, and we want to take you through the steps of the service performed—highlighting an important change we made to the repair process due to parts availability.

Oil Pan Leak

The oil pan serves an essential function in storing and circulating engine oil. Over time, the pan’s gasket can degrade due to heat and wear, causing oil to leak. In this case, the Renault Duster had a significant oil leak, resulting in oil dripping onto the ground and more concerning, risking a drop in oil levels, which could damage the engine if left unchecked.

Symptoms of an Oil Pan Leak

  • Visible oil spots under the car

Oil puddles on the ground, especially when parked.

  • Low oil levels

A noticeable drop in oil levels could indicate a leak.

  • Burning oil smell

Leaked oil can come into contact with hot engine parts, producing a burnt smell.

  • Oil pressure warning light

In some cases, the leak could affect oil pressure, triggering a warning light.

What Service Was Performed

Inspection & Diagnosis

The first step in the repair was a thorough inspection. We lifted the Renault Duster and identified the oil pan gasket as the source of the leak. The gasket had worn out, which led to oil seeping through.

Draining the Oil

We started by draining the old engine oil to avoid spills and contamination. This also allowed us to inspect the oil for signs of engine wear or unusual debris.

Removing the Oil Pan

The next step was to carefully remove the oil pan. The bolts holding it in place were removed, and after a little maneuvering (as oil pans sometimes get stuck with old residue), the pan was free.

Cleaning the Surface

After removing the oil pan, we thoroughly cleaned both the pan and the mating surface on the engine block. This step is critical to ensure there’s no old gasket material or dirt left behind, which could cause leaks in the future.

Replacing the Gasket with High-Quality Silicone

Normally, the solution would involve replacing the damaged oil pan gasket with a new one. However, due to a shortage of the specific gasket required for the Renault Duster in the local market, we opted to use high-quality silicone sealant as an alternative. Silicone is an excellent choice in this case because it provides a durable, flexible, and heat-resistant seal that can last long-term without the need for constant reapplication.

Reinstalling the Oil Pan

With the new silicone sealant applied to the surface, we carefully reinstalled the oil pan and secured it tightly. The silicone forms a strong bond that effectively prevents leaks, while also withstanding the heat and pressure inside the engine.

Refilling Engine Oil

Once the oil pan was securely in place, we refilled the engine with fresh, high-quality oil to the recommended level. A proper oil change ensures the engine remains lubricated and functions efficiently.

Final Inspection and Testing

After the reassembly, we started the engine and checked for any signs of leaks around the oil pan. We ran the engine for several minutes to ensure everything was sealed correctly and the new silicone was doing its job.

Why This Repair Matters

An oil pan leak may seem like a minor issue, but if left unaddressed, it can lead to serious engine damage. Low oil levels due to a leak can cause increased friction between engine components, resulting in overheating, poor performance or even complete engine failure. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are essential to keeping your Renault Duster in top condition.
